PHOENIX CONTACT operates 7 production lines with 63 placement modules from FUJI

4. October 2022

Speed and high placement quality in the placement process

Kelsterbach, October 4th, 2022 – PHOENIX CONTACT Electronics GmbH relies on high precision, quality and efficiency in placement. The company produces products and solutions for electrification, networking and automation and is experiencing growing demand – partly due to increasing digitization. In order to solve the requirements in placement, the company has been relying for several years on placement machines from FUJI EUROPE CORPORATION GmbH ( www.fuji-euro.de). Currently, there are 7 production lines with 63 modules from FUJI in operation. The modularity of the placement solutions enables PHOENIX CONTACT to react quickly to changing requirements.

PHOENIX CONTACT was founded in 1923 and has its headquarters in Blomberg in North Rhine-Westphalia. The group consists of fifteen German and four international companies. It maintains 11 manufacturing sites and 55 sales companies around the world. The company has around 20,300 employees worldwide. PHOENIX CONTACT specializes in products and solutions for electrification, networking and automation and supports companies on their way to the smart world.

Andreas Göbel at PHOENIX CONTACT, explains: “PHOENIX CONTACT products are used wherever processes have to run automatically. This can be in industrial production plants, in the field of renewable energies, in infrastructure or in complex device connections. The demands on our manufacturing processes are increasing, as more and more individual products are required, sometimes in small quantities, but mass production is also growing. So, especially in placement, we need very reliable machines that work quickly but at the same time with high precision. We have therefore been using FUJI machines for several years.”

FUJI EUROPE CORPORATION, headquartered in Kelsterbach, Germany, covers all areas of modern production in Greater Europe: from highly flexible placement systems in high-mix to complete placement lines in high-volume.

PHOENIX CONTACT primarily uses the scalable NXTIII placement platform. This is designed for speed and supports the smallest parts used in mass production with extreme positioning accuracy.

Automation for repetitive tasks

In addition to the multipurpose pick-and-place machines of the NXT III series, PHOENIX CONTACT, for example, has installed the Smart Setup Station from FUJI. It ensures quick and easy changeover work. The Smart Nozzle Cleaner ensures regular cleaning of the nozzles. This enables a smooth process and corresponding placement quality. The sItower SMD storage system from FUJI also increases process efficiency. It transports individual SMD reels to the storage locations via a robotic arm. Furthermore, the sItower can be used for universal storage of materials and components.

Andreas Göbel says: “Over the past years, FUJI has enabled more and more automation with its placement machines, for example in maintenance processes. This not only creates process reliability, but also valuable time savings and a reduction in the workload for our employees. Thanks to the modularity that FUJI offers, the placement solutions keep growing with our requirements. At the time, this was one of our decision-making criteria when selecting a partner in the field of placement, and it has proven its worth.”
