Surface mount technology equipment communication protocol standardization subcommittee’s launch

6. November 2017

At the Japan Robot Association, enterprises who manufacture surface mount technology (SMT) equipment and related software, launched the SMT equipment communication protocol standardization subcommittee in order to establish protocols for sharing information by communication methods between SMT machines (M2M cooperation).

A ballot was held, and the elected subcommittee chairman for the first year is from Fuji Machine Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and the vice subcommittee chairman is from Panasonic Corporation, with the board of governors comprising representatives from member corporations including Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd., JUKI CORPORATION, along with OMRON Corporation, Saki Corporation, TAMURA CORPORATION, and CKD Corporation.
Twenty member companies will work together to advance this standardization.

In a traditional SMT production line, there are various machines such as printers, inspection machines, placement machines, and reflow ovens, along with connecting conveyance machines. These machines typically come from different manufacturers. Because the format of printed circuit board data in each machine and how to communicate with other machines is unique for each company, the user is the one that must spend the time and money when they want to manage information consistently for entire lines.

Once this subcommittee has standardized protocols for communication between various machines from SMT production lines, systems can be created in which users can easily implement placement systems that extend beyond the boundaries of companies. Some merits of this include facilitating production management and hastening support for variable-volume variable-mix production. Manufacturing companies will also have opportunities to create new value offerings because of the ease of M2M cooperation.

From these actions, we are contributing to the development of the SMT market of the future.

Topping-out ceremony in Kelsterbach for FUJI MACHINE MFG. (EUROPE) GmbH

21. July 2017

The construction period of the new European headquarters of FUJI MACHINE MFG. (EUROPE) GmbH in Kelsterbach is record-breaking. While the ground-breaking ceremony took place on March 1st, the company celebrated yesterday the topping-out ceremony. Almost every day, the construction site on the territory of the new industrial estate “Staudenäcker” changes. The shell of building is completed. Completion of the outer contour of the building and all structural load-bearing components. The completion of the roof, masonry and concrete work allow a safe access. The notification of the bodywork completion is already submitted to the building supervisory authority. As it is mentioned in a current news at the website of Fuji Machine Europe from the still-based headquarters in Mainz-Kastel.

“I am pleased that the creation of our new European headquarters is making such good progress, and I’m thanking all those who have been involved in celebrating the topping-out ceremony today,” said Klaus Gross, Managing Director of Fuji Machine Europe. Gross handed over the microphone to the most important person that day – the carpenter Johannes Schmitz. Since almost no wood was used in the construction of the new European headquarters, the carpenter had adjusted his sentence accordingly.

Construction in record time

As construction manager Norbert Schmitz emphasized, everything went like clockwork. “We are already two days ahead of the plan,” confirmed the manager. He also praised the cooperation with the city of Kelsterbach, which certainly pleased the present Mayor Manfred Ockel, but also the other authorities. The construction project is created by the company Takanaka with seat in Duesseldorf and will be handed over turnkey to the company FUJI MACHINE MFG. (EUROPE) GmbH.A lot of glass

A lot of glass

“If everything goes according to plan, and that’s what it looks like, then the first employees can move in here in March next year,” explained project manager Britta Kessler. “All structural work is already finished and even the first windows are installed,” says the manager. Overall, a lot of glass is used in this construction. “The entire foyer with showroom will receive a glass front and on the office floor there is a patio, which is also surrounded by glass walls,” Britta Kessler describes the flooded building.

FUJI MACHINE MFG. (EUROPE) GmbH starts construction work for the new business building in Kelsterbach

31. March 2017

FUJI MACHINE MFG. (EUROPE) GmbH celebrated today the ground-breaking ceremony for the new business building at industrial area Staudenaecker, close to the Suedpark of Kelsterbach. In addition to the management team of FUJI MACHINE EUROPE and TAKENAKA EUROPE GmbH, invited guests from the city of Kelsterbach as well as the press took part in the celebration at the site. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in Japanese traditional symbolism.

FUJI MACHINE EUROPE is since 1991 a direct subsidiary of the Japanese FUJI MACHINE MFG. CO., LTD. working on the european market. The group has already been managing european customers from the Rhine-Main area a decade ago.

“At that time, the Group operated an office in Kelsterbach. In one year from today, we are moving back to Kelsterbach and realizing a long-cherished wish,” so Klaus Gross, Managing Director of FUJI MACHINE MFG. (EUROPE) GmbH.

Kelsterbach is a city in the heart of the Rhine-Main region and is as a business location very popular with its proximity to Frankfurt am Main airport. The city has a number of commercial areas and settlements. More than a thousand companies are registered here. “With the arrival of FUJI MACHINE EUROPE in our city, our location is enriching. We warmly welcome you and will appreciate you at Fujiallee in the future,” said Mayor Manfred Ockel, symbolically presenting the new road name.

Today, the european head office has about 60 employees and has been located in Mainz-Kastel since its foundation. As a strong and competent partner, FUJI MACHINE EUROPE can look back on more than 25 years of best service and sales support in the area of electronic placement systems for full-line suppliers.

“The new building is designed to achieve a growth factor of 1.5,” adds Bernd P. Buetzler, Managing Director of TAKENAKA EUROPE GmbH. Due to the positive business development and considerably expanded activities in Europe, an expansion of the business building had become inevitable.”As a planning and executing general contractor, we are very pleased to be able to carry out the new project for FUJI MACHINE EUROPE in the city of Kelsterbach.”

The modern business building includes office premises as well as showroom and warehouse. FUJI MACHINE EUROPE has the opportunity to grow innovatively and forward-looking – both technologically and in terms of staff.

Together with Mayor Manfred Ockel, Messrs Gross and Buetzler presented the cleansing of the plot in a symbolic act. At the four outer corners of the future building were spread, salt, against negative influences, rice, for good results, and sake, as thanks to god. Subsequently, the gentlemen made the first cut of the ground, the KUWA-IRE, for a safe construction and a brilliant future of the new business building of FUJI MACHINE EUROPE.

A successful partnership over 30 years

27. January 2017

Statement from Jabil Corporate about Fuji as their long term key supplier (Nov 2016):

Since the advent of mainstream SMT in the 1980’s, our industry has come a long way. From the standard chip package size in the 80’s being 1206 and larger, to now where we consistently see 0402 and smaller.

50+ years in manufacturing machine tools, coupled with Jabil’s roadmap direction, Fuji has been able to supply solutions to the industry that have outperformed many of their competitors.

Fuji has been a key Supplier of placement systems to Jabil. They have supported Jabil through times of rapid expansion of high volume and higher technology products. It shows how Fuji and Jabil have enjoyed a great working relationship & growth during that time.

As Fuji has been a major part in our success as a world leader in electronic assembly, we would like to recognize Fuji as a “Preferred Supplier” and say thank you for the past 30 years and we hope to enjoy many more years in this partnership.

As we move forward with our development of the “Factory of the Future”, SMT placement will be an integral component and we believe Fuji will be well placed for supporting this initiative.

Introducing the Fuji Flexible Placement Platform AIMEX III

24. August 2016

In regard to the placement processes used for electronic circuit boards, there are ever growing calls for high-mix, as well as variable-mix and variable-volume production in order to keep up with changes in the marketplace.

In order to meet these demands, Fuji developed the flexible and expandable AIMEX IIIc, which was announced in October 2015. On this occasion we would like to announce the release of the AIMEX III, a machine built with the same concepts as the AIMEX IIIc, as well as the ability to produce large panels.

Product features

  • Optimal for high-mix production
It has an industry top class in loadable number of parts with up to 130 part supply positions. AIMEX III also enables you to increase the loadable number approximately 1.5 times more by using HexaFeeders, offering flexible responses to variations in the quantity of supplied parts. Furthermore, using a DynaHead (DX) makes it possible for a single machine to support a wide range of part sizes from 0402 (01005″) parts* to 74 x 74 mm parts.
    *0402 (01005″) parts: Electronic components 0.4 x 0.2 mm in size
  • Support for variable-mix, variable-volume production
This machine can be set with a coplanarity check function which detects defects on parts before placement as well as the LCR check function. This enables users to build quality in the production process even for variable-mix variable-volume production.
  • Large panel support
Panels up to 774 x 710 mm can be produced. A double conveyor configuration is also possible, allowing for production using many different panel types and production modes.
  • Easy-to-use, on-machine editing function
12-inch touch screens improve usability on AIMEX III.
Ramping up production for new products and responding to errors can now be handled faster than ever with on-machine editing.
  • Improved productivity
Productivity is better with the high speed head H24, providing a throughput of 37,000 cph* in high productivity mode with a placing accuracy of ±38 μm.
*Cph: Chips per hour, the quantity of parts possible to be placed per hour
